As soon as we think of the ocean, we also think of the waves and the tides. The tides are caused by the gravitational effect of the moon on the earth. These tides carry huge amounts of power. The tides can be used to generate electricity using turbines. There are tidal energy platforms that use turbines to capture the energy of the tides. As the tides flow inside the turbine, it turns the blades of the turbine. This leads to the rotation of a generator that produces electricity. Tides are highly predictable as they follow lunar orbits which are known many years in advance. As such these tides are not just reliable but are also predictable source of energy for mankind. The tidal power generation is based on the age-old principles of hydrodynamics and electrical engineering. There are two basic theories on how to convert tides into power. The generation of the Tidal Wave Energy involves converting the power of the horizontal movement of the water into electricity. Another approach involves producing energy from the rise and drop of water levels. Dams are used to generate power from the tides. This is done by allowing water to come inside when there is a high tide and preventing it from leaving when the tide goes out. The water is then made to enter pipes which are connected to turbines. The turbines rotate and generate electricity.
